On 04 June 2026, USTFU President Emerito Gonzales and External Vice President John Vincent Ignacio participated in a hearing of the Manila City Council Committee on Health, presided over by Chairperson, the Hon. Irma C. Alfonso-Juson. The session centered on the final amendments to City Ordinance No. 8793, which currently mandates that all workers within the City of Manila secure an annual Health Certificate from the Manila Health Department. Representing the interests of the faculty, USTFU leadership contributed to the deliberation of a proposed amendment that advocates for a risk-based and proportionate approach to medical compliance. If adopted, this reform will significantly streamline requirements for academic personnel, exempting established teachers in the City of Manila from the annual health certification mandate, with the requirement limited only to newly hired employees. This move toward a more targeted regulatory framework reflects an ongoing commitment to easing administrative burdens on educators while maintaining appropriate health standards. The amendments are currently on the floor for final legislative action.
