USTFU Stands in Solidarity with National University Faculty in Push for Independent Union

The University of Santo Tomas Faculty Union (USTFU) stands shoulder-to-shoulder with our fellow educators at National University (NU) as they push for workplace dignity, democratic representation, and academic freedom!

Genuine representation cannot be replaced by management-led mechanisms like Faculty-Management Councils (FMC). An independent faculty union is essential to:

• Protect Academic Freedom: Shield scholars against arbitrary pressures and retaliation.
• Secure Transparent Tenure Policies: Establish clear, legally binding career pathways.
• Negotiate Fair Economic Benefits: Secure terms that reflect the dignity of teaching and the cost of living.
• Stand on Equal Footing with Management: Engage in collective bargaining as equal partners, not subordinates.

A university’s integrity lies in how it treats its academic workforce. We call on NU management to respect labor rights and allow faculty to freely organize.
